Flying over Korea made me really emotional. Seeing peaks and valleys, rivers, and homes made me think of Shin Joonghyun’s song, Beautiful Rivers and Mountains.
“Oh, so this is what he’s singing about.”
I was visiting Korea for the first time at the same age my mom was when she married and first left Korea to live in the States. It felt cathartic because I know that she sees herself in me. I also felt worried that I wouldn’t feel the connection that I’ve been longing to feel for the country that my family is from.
When we landed, my mom asked how I felt and I said, “감동.”
